A unique guide to business and investment in Mpumalanga, the 2025/26 edition of Mpumalanga Business is the 16th issue of this successful publication that since its launch in 2008 has established itself as the premier business and investment guide for the province. Global Africa Network is pleased to carry a message from the CEO of the Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) in which the investment climate in this resource-rich province is outlined. Ongoing work on infrastructure such as roads, water works, schools and hospitals, supported by the establishment of one of South Africa’s newest and most dynamic universities, makes this an attractive destination for investors in a wide variety of sectors. In this journal MEGA also presents the Mpumalanga Trade & Investment Profile, a 12-page booklet which surveys the provincial economy and gives specific details about what investment opportunities are available. The creation of the Mpumalanga Green Cluster Agency is a sign of the times, and a further invitation to investors to consider this forward-looking province. The rapid development of the province’s first wind farm, Seriti Green’s Ummbila Emoyeni, is covered in full in this edition, as are other developments in the energy field. The latest updates in all the most important sectors of the provincial economy are covered, including news that Sasol has a plan to avoid a looming “gas cliff”. It is home to predominantly tropical and subtropicalcrops and vegetables owing to its conducive climate. The tropical andsubtropical crops consist of avocado, banana, citrus, ginger, granadilla,guava, litchi, macadamia nut, mango, papaya and pineapple.The vegetables produced include potatoes, tomatoes, pumpkins,sweet corn, onions, sweet potatoes, beetroots, carrots, green peas,cauliflowers, cabbages and green beans.Site: The site is in Mbombela on a 248ha plot less than 10kmfrom the Central Business District. It is situated within the MaputoDevelopment Corridor (MDC), linking Mpumalanga, Gauteng Provinceand the Nkomazi Special Economic Zone with the deepwater Port ofMaputo in Mozambique.The market: The market will give local farmers access to local,regional and international fresh produce markets and will aid inensuring food security for the region.The infrastructure of the MIFM will attract international as well asthe large domestic food retailers as a key processing and distributionpoint. An SEZ aims to be an economic development tool topromote rapid economic growth by using various support measuresto attract targeted foreign and domestic investments and technology. HThe main goal is to support the implementation of South Africa’sindustrial development programme.Strategically positioned in the border town of Komatipoort, theSEZ offers a multi-sector base of operations along the MaputoDevelopment Corridor which provides exporters with good accessthrough Maputo Port to the export markets of South East Africa,the Indian Ocean Rim and Far East Asia.The Nkomazi SEZ will target investment from the agriculture,agro-processing, nutraceuticals and fertiliser production sectors,as having a strong focus on logistics and trade services.The NSEZ offers the investor a unique and incentivised baseof operations on the Maputo Development Corridor runningthrough the most highly industrialised and productive regions ofSouthern Africa.24The Maputo Corridor is bound to develop even more as the Maputoharbour improves its handling and scheduling capacity.
