Credit: APPA The Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone (MMSEZ) is an initiative of the Limpopo Provincial Government with the MMSEZ SOC as the implementing agent. The MMSEZ SOC, a subsidiary of the Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA), has appointed a private operator for the Energy and Metallurgical Complex (EMSEZ). Energy generation is vital for economic growth and the MMSEZ provides an opportunity not only to provide power to fuel industry and manufacturing, but to bring electricity to communities that have previously been neglected. The light manufacturing of metal products, when exported, will increase trade. There is an ongoing market locally and in Africa for roof sheeting, window frames, stainless-steel products, other metal alloys like axels, piston rods and many more products. The electronics industry will manufacture mobile devices, televisions and circuit boards. Industries within the electronics sector include telecommunications, networking, electronic components, industrial electronics and consumer electronics. The food and beverage industry beneficiates agricultural produce abundant in the region. This increases localisation, value-add and enhances agro-processing. The wood and paper industry creates finished products for construction and domestic use such as fencing, flooring, furniture, musical instruments, sports equipment and many other products. The packaging, logistics and warehousing industries link to the export of products from South Africa.
