1 FOREWORD GROWING VALUE CHAINS TO ACHIEVE ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION Rhoode Itumeleng, Executive Mayor of the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality, welcomes investors with news of three exciting new corridors of opportunity within the large, beautiful and strategically located district. Pixley ka Seme District Municipality is one of the five districts of the Northern Cape Province, situated in the south-east. It shares its borders with three other provinces, namely the Free State province to the east, the Eastern Cape to the south-east and Western Cape to the south-west. It consists of eight Category B Municipalities, namely Emthanjeni Local Municipality (LM), Renosterberg LM, Kareeberg LM, Siyancuma LM, Siyathemba LM, Ubuntu LM, Thembelihle LM and Umsobomvu LM. The district is the second largest in the country in terms of land size covering an area of 103 411km. The district is strategically located in terms of transport corridors considering the fact that the N1, N8, N10 and N12 pass through the region. The following are some of the corridors impacting the Emthanjeni Local Municipality region, which is centred on De Aar: SKA Corridor: The Square Kilometre Array Telescope is an initiative which seeks to build the most sensitive radio telescope in the Southern Hemisphere. It is located in the Kareeberg LM with economic spill-offs that will positively affect Emthanjeni LM. Solar Corridor: This extends from Emthanjeni LM to the Dawid Kruiper LM with solar PV and wind projects. Pixley ka Seme Agri Park: The Park is a networked innovation system of agro-production, processing, logistics, marketing, training and extension services located in Petrusville. As a network it enables the growth of market-driven commodity value chains and contributes to the achievement of rural economic transformation.
